Volvo began operations in late 1926, preparing for the production of cars which started in April 1927. It was soon clear that there was only modest demand in Sweden for a Swedish car.
Therefore, the Volvo company started to produce the Volvo truck in 1928. Volvo sales of advanced cross country vehicles to the Swedish Army in the 1940's and the experience of developing cross-country military vehicles would prove to be of great long-term benefit to Volvo in the design and
production of other forms of rough terrain vehicles that would be used in areas such as construction.
