In 1925, the Holt Manufacturing Company and the C. L. Best Tractor Co. merged to form Caterpillar Tractor Company. By 1931, Caterpillar had brought out its first diesel tractor and, by 1940, the Caterpillar product line included motor graders, blade graders, elevating graders, terracers and electrical generating sets. The Caterpillar Tractor Co. Ltd. was formed in Great Britain in 1950 to help manage foreign exchange shortages, tariffs, import controls and better serve customers around the world. Today the company is known as Caterpillar Inc. depicting the global growth of the company.
